We realized that we were soon going to need two car seats (a spare for DH's car) so we went to see if the MA fit before I ordered the FPSV online. We got there and were told that due to liability they no longer allow you to try seats in your car. I asked, what do you want me to do? Buy 2/3 seats, go to my car, open them up, take brand new seats out of the packaging, try them out, turn around and return them??? She said, yeah you could do that.

When I shop for anything I always make sure I grab one that hasn't been opened. Like I would buy a car seat that looked like it had been opened. I think the whole thing is stupid. If they are worried about liability why don't they just have a short waiver to make you sign first.

THEN I asked about the harness height on the Evenflo and she went and looked and said it accomodated a 50" child. I asked what about the Decathalon. She goes and looks, comes back, and says I think its 65". Ummmm wow 5' 5" huh? I could practically fit

After that we just left. My husband said she was confused with the weight. I said I know she was using the weight number on the decathalon (I believe the box on the Evenflo says 50#/50"/97% of 5 yo) but she was definitely using it for a height.

So they had no MA because of the recalls and we ended up going to Target, buying a MA, trying it out, and returning it right away. Then I came home and ordered the FPSV.

Sorry for the vent, I'm just still irritated this morning.

I have not heard of that new policy. I was just there at lunch, but didn't have a need to try on out. You may want to call BRU costomer service and ask them about this policy to verify that it was a real policy and not one made up by an employee because they didn't want to go outside that day.

It is frustating when people just tell the height limits on the seat. Those are guidelines and what is most imporant is torso height so that should be a figure that salespeople are more informed about.

I hope you like FPSV seat when it comes in.

My sister was there 1 week ago trying a new seat, and they let her take it out to her car.

sorry to hear about your visit with BRU. It's frustrating isn't it! The one thing that they *BRU* needs is trained people who work in the car seat section. It's no wonder people are so missed informed when it comes to buy and using their car seats. I hope that when the new seat comes in you'll enjoy it!

I always try them in my car, even when I'm not planning on buying . I just have to leave my driver's license at the customer service desk until I bring it back. No one has ever come out to the parking lot with me.

When I tried the Regent at BRU this summer, the guy had to come out to the car w/me and stand there while I played with the seat (the bonus was that he carried the Regent, and it was 105 degrees out!), so I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked with it, since I could tell that he wasn't enjoying himself, standing there in the heat. I asked if I could leave my license at the front and take it out myself, but was told that an employee had to come with me.

I had the same experience at the same BRU. The policy must differ from store to store.

Jessb, is there another BRU you can visit? Maybe their policy would be different.

We have 2 BRU stores within 30 min from our house (obviously going in different directions) and one will let you try them out as long as you leave your license with the customer service desk. They offer assistance, but you don't have to take it. The other BRU store won't let you take them to your car. Go figure?? Maybe it's up to the manager???
