small but safe car seats

I just got a new car and am looking for less bulky car seats, but don't want to compromise safety either. I have a 5.5 year old (37 lbs) and a 2+ year old (31 lbs). Are there are car seats that have a smaller footprint/less bulky?

All carseats are safe. What is your budget? Is your two year old rear or forward facing, and is the five year old harnessed or in a booster? How tall is each child?

You're right, they are all safe!

Not sure about the budget, just seeing what's out there. Both are forward facing. 5 yr old is harnessed right now, CT law says that he can't go to booster until 40 lbs (starting Oct. 1st).
