Small 10 year old-can we switch from Britax ClickTight to a booster yet?

Almost 10 year old (birthday is 9/24) DD is really upset about still being in a conventional carseat. (Britax Frontier ClickTight) She is small, so I have been refusing to let her move on to a booster. Am I being overly cautious? (Is there such a thing?)

She is:
52 inches tall
58-60 lbs
19 inches shoulder height (I followed the directions on the Britax site for measuring)

She typically rides in 2nd row captain's chair of a 2016 Kia Sedona minivan.

I don't consider that small at all. My DS who is 9y9m is about the same size and has been using a booster since he was 6 (he was 40lbs at the time). At her age and size a NBB would be appropriate as long as she can sit properly without leaning around too much. A HBB can help during the transition as a reminder to sit in position and prevent slumping while sleeping.

At the age of 7 I allow my kids to move to a booster even if they fit harnessed (below weight limit, shoulders below top slots) and at 10 I allow a backless booster even if they fit in a high back (this assuming that the vehicle is appropriate for that, that the child sits properly, etc.)

At your daughter's age I'd absolutely allow a booster. :)

We switched after kindergarten. My son is 44 lbs and has been in a hbb for a year. I'd definitely let her switch. I've heard some discussion about whether the booster is safer since in a crash the pressure moves from the neck in a 5 point to the torso in a booster. My engineering thinking says the booster is safer if the child sits in it properly which is why we switched when we did. My younger son is much bigger than his brother and would technically fit in a booster earlier but he's not as responsible as big brother so he'll be in the harness at least through kindergarten as well. Our harness goes to 100 lbs which is great but excessive for most kids.
