Lesser of 2 evils?

A is now 6 and 1/2 and weighs 50.4 pounds. She is boostered in my car 99% of the time. Her Frontier Clicktight is in my mom's car and she uses it for A weekly and a little boy she babysits on occasion (S). S is 3 and some change and probably 35ish pounds? However, she will very likely reduce her time with S and minimally drive him once she starts watching my nephew 3 days/week.

My dad for some reason (don't even ask...) dislikes driving my mom's car when there is a seat installed. Typically she is able to come out to my house to reinstall it before she has to drive A or S. However, now that she will have the baby this is going to be more difficult. I'm leaving it up to her and S's parents to figure out what to do when she drives him. But I am trying to figure out what to do with A. Would she be better off in the FR untethered? I have full confidence my mom can install it with the seatbelt, but would be unable to do the tether. Or in a booster where my mom may not be as good at reminding her to sit properly and monitoring her in it? A has autism and generalizing rules/behavior is hard for her. She also enjoys "playing the system" and exhibiting different skills to some people then others. It took until April to realize my mom didn't know A could dress herself which she's been doing for a loooong time.

Oh, and the car is a 2 door Chevy Cobalt. My mom has arthritis, chronic pain, has had both hips replaced, multiple shoulder and back surgeries, etc. Otherwise I would just tell her she HAD to figure out the tether. I think it is physically impossible for her to access it, though.

So, long story short, untethered FR Clicktight for a 50 pounder or booster with possibility of non-ideal (though not dramatically unsafe) positioning?

With a small car and a 50 pound child, I personally would be apprehensive about an untethered Frontier. Do you think it would help if you taught your mom proper booster use with A right there? Not so much for your mom, but more so that A knows that your mom knows the rules and is less likely to "play the system" with it?
