    Canada Vancouver, BC

We are taking a trip next month which will end in Vancouver BC where we will stay for a few days. While we plan to use public transportation we will also probably need to take a taxi to the airport due to luggage, and might rent a car one day to go to Victoria for the day. etc. The kids are 9YO female who is 68Lbs and a 8YO male who is 79Lbs. Neither one is yet 4'9. We will have several other stops in the United States as well.

The tentative plan at this point is get a couple Bubble Bum boosters but I'm concerned that it isn't legal in a rental car. My understanding is that car seat laws do not apply in Canadian taxis... I'm hoping someone can confirm this and maybe a suggestion for if we rent a car?

    Please and Thank you

It is my understanding that US seats aren't legal in Canada and Canadian seats aren't legal in the US.

However, as a visitor, it is unlikely anything would happen to you if you used a seat from your own country. The bubblebum is a great choice for travel. Another lightweight option, and a seat available in both countries, is the Harmony youth booster. Though you'll still have the labeling issue of it technically not being certified in the country it wasn't bought in, the seat would likely fly under the radar of anyone glancing at it.

I don't live in B.C., but in my province, car seats are not required in taxis. But I don't know if that means it's legal to use a car seat that isn't otherwise legal to use in Canada.

Check out ICBC's web site or call them to be certain.
