Hi. My oldest is 10 1/2 and is 59 inches 80 lbs. Her seated shoulder height has just hit almost 21.5 which is the top limit of her Britax Frontier 90. She does not pass the 5 step test as the lap portion of the belt hits her abdomen. I'm unsure of what to do. I'd like to get a booster but have been searching for hours unsuccessfully. Most boosters seem to have height limits of 57''. Are these true limits or just placed there due to the state laws that are often 57"? The boosters that are higher all seem to be too short for her seated shoulder height. We tried the Britax Parkway but the seat was too short for her shoulders and too narrow.
Can she stay in her Britax Frontier for a short time if her shoulders are just barely at shoulder belt level? Is this more dangerous than just having a lap belt? Is she better off in a backless booster even if she is over the height requirement? Should I just buy a backless booster and keep her in it until she passes the 5 step test completely even if this puts her over the maximum height (I'll watch that her ears aren't above the head rest). This is confusing so I appreciate any help very much.
Thanks so much!
