Question Extended RFing carseats

Hi all - apologies if this is posted in the wrong section. Pls let me know if it should go somewhere else in the forum.

My almost 3yo has gotten too tall for his Evenflo Tribute. I would like to continue RFing him for another year or so. He's average for height but only 26lbs so RFing weight limits are likely not going to be a concern.

Our car is a Volvo XC90 (SUV) so it's pretty large but he's currently in the middle seat and my 6.5yo is next to him in her Britax Frontier 90. Ideally I'd like to keep him in that middle seat so we can fit an additional person in the car when needed.

I'm looking right now at the Diono Radian RXT and the Graco Extend2Fit 3in1. There's a chance there could be a baby #3 back there one day, but I assume that by then my oldest would either be in a backless booster or out of car seats entirely. Can anyone advise which might be a better car seat between the Radian and the Extend2Fit? Or are there others I should consider?

Re: Extended RFing advice

The Radian is not a bad seat, but not near as tall as others. It also is nowhere near a decent booster - especially since your son is lightweight. It's quite possible he would outgrow it by height before hitting the 50lb booster minimum. The Radian is also harder to use than other newer seats. It is narrow though.

On the Extend2Fit 3-in-1 - although it makes a decent booster often dedicated boosters are easier to use than a combination or multimode seat in booster mode. Additionally, boostering is often a gradual process and having a dedicated booster instead of a seat you have to convert back and forth can be easier.

With his low weight height room is probably more important - carseatblog has a helpful list of ERF seats over here. https://carseatblog.com/31265/best-...cing-the-definitive-guide-for-savvy-shoppers/

Some of those seats have 40in standing height limits, though.

For a narrower seat the Graco Clones (Size4Me, MySize, Headwise, etc) or maybe the Milestone/Slimfit? You could def also try the E2F and E2F 3-in-1, but for your lightweight the 50lb limit may be overkill. That said, if you like the seat and it works, it's a good seat.
