Graco Atlas vs Evenflo Securekid for carpool seat

My 5 year old DS (40lbs/42") will be picked up from school by a friend and I need to buy a seat for her vehicle. I want to keep him harnassed, so I have narrowed it down to the Graco Atlas and the Evenflo Securekid. I have looked at the specs, but does anyone have real life experience that would sway me either way? Or another seat entirely? Budget is as close to $100 as I can get, and I can get either for that with either coupons or sales right now. I do not know the make or model of the car this will go in, but it is a four door car, possibly compact. TIA!

I don't have IRL experience to help you chose between the seats, but the Atlas a no-rethread harness while the SecureKid does not. The Atlas also comes with harness pads, while the SecureKid does not. The Evenflo seats are also known for having very narrow set shoulder straps, which could be a consideration especially without harness pads.

The SecureKid DLX has SureLatch connectors and the LX has push on connectors vs the Atlas's hook style connectors, but at 40lbs you will likely want to install with the vehicle seatbelt so that is less important.

Hopefully some others have more help for you!

You can use the lower anchors up to 45 lbs with the Atlas. We have an Atlas. I've worked with the SecureKid at events. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other, but the no rethread harness on the Atlas is nice.
