booster seat recommendations help

Hi there,

Our 6 1/2 year old daughter is close to outgrowing her Foonf Clek. We kept her rear facing until she was 3 1/2 years old. She is on the slim side and is average height. I don't think she is ready for the seat belt only booster. We would like to keep her in booster seat with a back that converts to a seat belt and maybe backless down the road.

The Britax Frontier is on sale at $349 ($100 0ff). Not sure if that is a good price for a booster or not.

What would you recommend.
We drive a Chevy Colorado, though I don't think it matters.

Thanks,

Marion

I know this is in international but I want to confirm that you are in Canada, correct?

What are your concerns with having your daughter switch to a dedicated highback booster? As long as she is over 40 lbs, at her age, a dedicated booster can be a safe choice.

If you really want the harness, I would look at the Graco Nautilus as well. It should give you some extra room harness wise over the Filo, then it converts to a highback booster and finally to a no back. The frontier you mentioned is another great choice.

As for your Colorado- what year and trim level? Because that definitely can make a difference. They make the Colorado with flip down seats and no head rests as well as ones with full back doors and seats.

I like the high back option, I think it is a good transition from a car seat and safe for her size. I forgot to mention that we also have an Evenflo Sureride that we used for travel/car rental. Or going in someone else's car.

I'll check out the booster you mentioned. What would you recommended between the two or are they pretty close in comparison?

Our Colorado is a 2016 with an extended cab.
We live in Ontario.

Thanks so much. I like to research as much as I can and choose the safest choice.

Thanks
Marion

So you have seats that flip down in the backseat? How deep are they? And do the seating locations have headrests?

If your backseat is how I'm picturing it, an issue you might run into is overhang. Graco and Britax both only allow 20% overhang for their harness seats. And I'm not sure which companies allow overhang for their belt only boosters. You'll likely need to try those harness seats in your vehicle before buying.

I know the Clek Oobr highback booster will likely work for you, as it's the only one that works in our 2012 Colorado Extended Cab. Hopefully your seats are a little deeper than ours. Because it has rigid latch, it can overhang and stays in place.
