Question Tiny 7 year old: booster for travel

My 7 year old son is just under 44" and 39 lbs. He and 9 yo brother still ride in their Frontier and Radian seats harnessed without complaint. We are flying and renting a car for a ten day trip in a few weeks and I am contemplating whether the 7yo could use a booster in the car during that trip (the 9 year old will for sure). Any recommended models would be great. He is reasonably mature for seven. Both kids fall asleep in the car at times- do I just need to make sure they are not slipping out of the shoulder strap when they sleep? Love using a harness but it is a drag to travel with!

See if you can teach him to look up when sleepy- if he can stay up in a harness a booster should be no problem.

At 39 lbs I'm guessing with shoes on he's 40 which means he'll reach the minimum for any booster. I would have no hesitation at 7, just start practicing the looking up to learn not to slump when asleep. In fact I wouldn't hesitate to move full time if he sits well and it becomes a convenience issue.

Being so small the Harmony Folding Booster might work well.

Otherwise, the Evenflo Amp or Graco Turbobooster are both good lightweight budget choices with tried and true fit on small kids and in many cars- and they are easy enough to pack the back in checked luggage and stow the bottom under an airplane seat, so you at least have the bottom should anything happen to the back.
