The booster seat that won't go away.

2 years ago we visited my parents in Australia for the first time with DS when he was 1 year old. My mum got very excited about finally having her only grandchild stay with her, and she went and found baby gear, including a yard sale car seat. She knew the owner and knew it wasn't in an accident, so she told me it was OK. I asked some questions, and found out it was a 10 year old booster and Mum sewed a new cover for it

I refused to use it and I even called Britax Australia and the CS rep told me to have my mother call her directly and she would tell her to destroy the seat. Of course Mum was annoyed that I wouldn't use it and complained to family members, who told her I was right. I thought that was the end of the story.

Today I was speaking with her about our visit next April, and she told me to not bring a car seat, but to use the seat she has as he's big enough now. DS is 3 in December and 29lbs. No way, no how. DH nearly died laughing when he heard she tried to convince me the seat was fine to use. DS is still RF. I told her outright that he will not use a booster seat until he's closer to 5 or 6.

I appreciate that she was trying to help, and I know she doesn't like throwing things away, but I've explained twice now that DS will never use this seat. When we're there, I'll find that seat, find the DOM and have a print out from Britax Australia re. expiry date, I'll even call Britax for her if need be, and then I'll destroy it. Dad's got a nice chainsaw.

I love my mom. I think she thinks I'm a little excessive, but she doesn't give me any grief at all about my safety choices for my children.

Car seats here have a 10 year life span then it is time to destroy the beast:D

Here by the time the child is 35lbs they are usually out of a seat:eek: . In Qld after the child turns 1 their is no car seat law, it is only recommended that they use one:thumbsdown:

People here still can't believe that I have my 7.5 yr old and 4 yr old still in a harness.

There were no car seats when I was a kid. I can remember being 8 or 10 and having to start to wear a seat belt. But I do know, that unless I destroy this seat, she'll still be offering it to me when DS is 6.

I wish i could use the chainsaw on my friend's carseat

My mom would never question my descions on how my kids rode in the car, but she told me that the carriers when I was a baby didn't even have a handle (how is that a carrier?) some parents. My mom's husband would have put my 9DS ffing at 9.5 months, if I hadn't insisted on installing hte seat myself, and he's practically a cop, I looked at him, and said, "I figured you of all people would know better".
