Lightbulb Travel restraint for Special Needs

Hello! I have a forwarded topic from my visitor post on the the CarseatBlog Facebook page.
Fwd msg: I have been perusing your blog learning lots about car seats. I am on a search for the perfect car safety system for our special needs daughter. We currently use the Baby Trend Hybrid 3-n-1. My issue is this- Kaitlyn is 6 years old, 50 pounds and a "total lift" meaning she doesn't stand or help with her movement. When we lift her into her seat, over the armrests, sometimes her head hits the door frame or roof. We want to find something with a lower rise, lower or no arm rests and would prefer to have the 5 point harness system as her trunk control isn't on par with her peers. {She can sit well but with an impact may "sway" more} There is ONE company that markets a car seat swivel system to the adaptive community but it is $1,200. (For real- that's not a typo). That's {WAY} out of our price range. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Another option may be the vest things. Do you have any opinions about a travel vest/booster combo?

Re: Travel restraint for Special Needs

The travel vest (Ride Safer Travel Vest) can ONLY be used with their (backless) booster, and the other vests on the market (EZ on) may require additional hardware installed in some vehicles (so isn't necessarily great for travel- though if renting a car you could be ok until she weighs more. You'd need something else on the airplane though.)

Special needs options may suit her much better- a booster with positioning harness could be perfect for moving between cars. As you're finding, they are expensive. They are usually paid for by insurance as DME.

If you need help finding a special needs trained tech in your area to assist you we'd love to help!

Columbia 2000 Integrated Positioning System™ (IPS) Car Seat - has low sides for easier transfers and has a 5 point harness. I think it can be converted to a stroller too. The price I see is $766 at this website

Thomashilfen Recaro is the one with the swivel and i definitely near $1000
