narrow European infant seats?

I’m looking for an infant car seat with the following features:
- has a base that can be installed using a non-lockable seatbelt
- very narrow—will fit on its base between two Immi Gos in the middle seat of a Prius
- five-point harness (unless someone can convince me I should be ok with these common European three-point infant harnesses… they just weird me out!)
- can be installed without the base with a non-lockable seatbelt (for use in taxis)

I am guessing this will have to be a European seat? Since the Corroco is the only US baby seat I know of that can be installed with a non-locking seatbelt. But maybe I’ve missed one?

Basically, the Chicco Keyfit 30 (and possibly the new Fit2) is my dream seat, except for needing a locking clip to use the seat without the base in a European taxi. I wish the Fit2 were allowed to install without locking the seatbelt using the European belt path routing, but it doesn’t seem that’s allowed. Should I just get over the locking clip issue?

(Background: We are living in Israel. I don’t have a problem with importing a seat from the US or from Europe.)

Hi! In many cases, any seat with a European belt path baseless (like the Chicco Fit2- which meets most of your requirements) can take up enough slack in a 3 point belt to not need a locking clip. I am unfamiliar with European seats that would meet your requirements but I would hazard a guess that the Fit2 would usually work, and locking clips aren't hard if not. After a little practice you'll find they are a matter of under a minute.

Thanks---since I'm a bit unfamiliar with the concept, how would I tell if a seat with European belt path routing were taking enough slack to not need the clip? Do I just do the "handshake" test?

Yes basically, if you use up so much of the belt that you have less than one inch of movement at the belt path (near the buckle) you're fine.
