School bus - Proper restraint for under 40lb 4 year old?

My DS is 4.5 and 35 lbs. He is to ride in a short school bus (like the big yellow ones, just short, NOT a van) tomorrow for a field trip. The bus has lap belts only. My research has told me that if the child is under 50 lbs, they should be restrained in a car seat. I have asked the teacher and she said that she has boosters for the kids, but I don't think that's allowed with just a lap belt, is it? Can someone explain to me what my BEST option is for my DS? Would he be ok riding the bus with just the lap belt? I know buses are constructed to be safer, but not sure if safe enough to not use the car seat on the bus. Help please??

The best option is to use his car seat. Boosters can't be used with lap only belts and shouldn't be used in school buses. (She may mean "harnessed boosters"- combination seats- but it's still good to have a seat you know fits him, especially if you can install it for him.)
