The new Safety 1st Ultramax Air 360 seat is described as a "4-in-1" seat. I was scouring the description and pictures trying to figure out how it converts to a backless when I found the section of the website in which it is explained that the four stages are:
Rear-facing (4-22 lbs)
"Extended rear-facing" (15-50 lbs)
Forward-facing (22-65 lbs)
High back booster (40-120 lbs)
On the one hand, it is nice that they are acknowledging that children should stay RF for a significant chunk of their car seat years. On the other hand, it seems like a marketing ploy to compete with the 4-ever instead of the "Extend2fit 3-in-1" (which is its more direct competition). And how is 15 lbs "extended rear-facing"? Yeah, a 15 lb baby might not need the infant inserts anymore, but it confuses the term "extended rear-facing" to refer to a child that is legally required to be rear-facing as "extended rear-facing."
