Buying seats for carpooling

I'm trying to make it work so that I can carpool with another family in the mornings to school. If you carpool (boosters only) did you purchase seats for your kids to remain in the other person's vehicle or do you pass seats back and forth? Also, did you purchase seats for the carpoolers in your vehicle or did the child's parents purchase their seats.

I personally provide seats for any child that rides in my car.

And my kids rarely ride with others, so I usually send their seats with them. Or in the case of my mom, who does transport pretty regularly, she has her own set of seats. Most were provided by me, some she split with me.

I would provide a backless booster to the parent that is driving my child because I don't always trust other parents car seat standards. Plus backless boosters are pretty inexpensive. I think if you want the other children boostered in your car you might have to provide those as well because most kids get out of boosters before they are actually big enough to be out of boosters.

This is exactly what I was thinking would probably happen, but I wanted to get a general idea if that was typically the case or not. I will definitely provide seats for my own kids, I was just wondering how common it is for other people to provide seats for their kids in someone else's vehicle.

I found that starting around 3rd grade, I HAD to provide my own seat because the majority of my kids' friends no longer used a booster or had one lying around for my kid to use.

This was also the time I realized I had to keep extras on hand because these friends didn't have a seat to bring with them when I required seats to be used.

Now that my booster kid is in 5th grade, I had to come up with ways to make it non-negotiable for these same kids that had been out of a booster since 3rd grade. This has prompted me to make sure that any seating position that can be used by a booster rider has a latched booster in it's place and I just point them to that spot.

Do you 5-point test them or just require them to all use a booster?

At this point, i just require a booster. My son doesn't 5-step and all his friends are the same height or less. If he had a significantly taller friend, I might 5 step the kid.

My oldest didn't 5-step until he was 12. The 1 friend I remember driving ever was when he was 10. That kid had to be at least 100 pounds and was probably 5'. I didn't 5-step him and just let him use the belt. From what I remember, I did a quick visual while he was buckling and he didn't need it.
