    Need to upgrade seats, opinions?

We have a 3 year old (about 50% for weight and 70% for height) in a 2012 Britax Boulevard (padding of seat falling apart), and a 10 month old (in the first percentile for weight) in a 2011 Graco SnugRide 35. We practice extended rear facing, especially since they are so small. The age of the infant seat as well as the Britax worry me. I would like to change both of them eventually to a Diono Rainier. I've ordered one of the seats already. What would you do with the Britax? Should I replace or continue to use it until it expires?

Also, we drive a 2016 Odyssey, with my 5 year old in the back row harnessed in a Diono Rainier - with no plans for changing him out of that configuration until he reaches the harness limit. I have trouble getting a tight seat belt install with the Diono in most vehicles (we do travel with it so have tried it in many vehicles). Any tips?

I'd pass the Rainier down to a rear facing child, since it's not very usable in booster mode, and it's easier to install rear facing in many vehicles compared to forward.

I'd get new foam for the Britax.

I'd probably cancel the Rainier you have on order, and instead order a combination seat for the five year old, so that way you'll have a usable booster when the time comes.

Thanks, that's helpful. I'm looking at the Pioneer 70. Any other extended harnessing/booster combination seat I should look at?

The Pioneer, Britax Frontier, Graco Nautilus, Graco Tranzitions, Harmony Defender, Evenflo SecureKid, Evenflo Transitions should all get your five year old (assuming average size and weight) to a mature booster age, then be well fitting boosters after that. The Nautilus, Tranzitions, Defender, and Transitions also become backless boosters later.
