Car shopping and so overwhelmed

And I just started. Other than knowing I want an SUV/crossover style and that we have a budget of $15,000, I'm a lot lost.

If anyone has suggestions or wants to make some, feel free. There are 4 of us, occasionally 5. Quinn will be 7 in September and rides in an Evenflo Big Kid Amp or Harmony Big Boost (I think, it's the LATCHable one). He has been told that once he is 7, he can take the back off his Evenflo as he is at the top height setting now. Sean will be 4 in August and is forward facing in Radian. He is on the top slots, but has room to grow. Occasionally my mother will come with us somewhere, so being able to comfortably fit 3 adults and the kids would be nice. Comfort being relative as it would usually be for short trips so if I can fit between the booster and Radian, it would work. Being able to fit Costco grocery trips is something of a must, so decent cargo space (hence my desire for a SUV).

This was as much a vent as an ask for help, so thanks for reading.

Subaru Outback would work well.
I have a 2012, my parents have a 2015.
I have an 8 year old in a backless turbo and a 2 year old in a rear facing boulevard. I've also had 3 across including 2 backless boosters and a Maestro in the mix with no issues. My mom has ridden in the back and said she was comfortable.
Cargo space is great, exit/entry is amazing since it's more of a crossover, add in great safety features, standard AWD and amazing resale value all making it a great vehicle.

Hadn't looked too much at Subaru's in general. Not sure why, well, besides they hadn't popped up on autotrader.com around here in my price range. Either they aren't popular here, or have a higher re-sale value. I'll have to sort for them and see what comes up.

I had a Chevy Trax as a rental for a short time and loved it. It would not be big enough for a good Costco trip, but maybe a Chevy Equinox would work, they look quite similar but the Equinox is bigger. Not sure how much of that is cargo space since I haven't actually looked at one.

I love my Hondas, but since they are not SUVs, I don't know which of their SUVs would be a good size, but I would looking into theirs if I were going to buy an SUV. DH currently has a 2016 Ford Escape rental, I am not a fan and for sure not enough cargo space, at least not with kids in the back seat.

MIL has a 2010 Toyota Highlander, it has a good amount of cargo space when the 3rd seat is not in use and barely any when it is. It is supposed to have room for 3 people in the 2nd row, but the middle seat is pretty narrow. The 3rd row is optional, but I don't think having more than 4 people total works well unless it is there, but if you need to have 5 people when you make a Costco trip, one with a 3rd row would hold everybody but not much stuff. What MIL does when the 4 of us go somewhere with her is leave 1/2 of the 3rd row folded out of the way for cargo room and the other usable for a kid. She and DH sit in the front, me and one kid in 2nd row, and one kid in 3rd row.

Those are the only SUVs I have any experience with, hope it is somewhat helpful.
