Rolled up blankets for big kid?

My DS2 is six years old and still rear facing because of the low tone/cerebral palsy. We always use rolled up blankets (similar to how you would use a rolled receiving blanket to help a newborn achieve a proper fit side to side) to keep him from flopping around in the car. He will be upgrading to a Graco Extend2Fit very soon and we will need blankets more than ever. Is it still safe to do this? I always place the blankets after I know he's properly buckled in.

Yes, still safe. We actually discussed this in the special needs class.
