Got a G3 Marathon from a trusted friend that I am planning to use as a spare seat for my grandson in my car. I'm a little out of the Britax tether loop, so I know this has probably been re-hashed a million times, but its new to me lol! I know that there was a big change, and now the RF tether or ARB is required for the newer seats. My son has a new Boulevard with the ARB in his truck, but I understand from the G3 manual that the tether is 'recommended' but not required for RF. The seat is rock solid without.
At the same time, I see an IDEAL RF tether point under the driver seat. It is a large steel bar attached to the floor that runs parallel to the floor - the seat track is mounted on top of it, but the D-ring could loop that steel bar without affecting the seat track AT ALL. The Ford Explorer manual states that " if your child restraint system is equipped with a tether strap and the manufacturer recommends its use, Ford also recommends its use". The marathon is equipped, and Britax recommends the use of a tether strap advising to use the D-Ring to "find a fixed location in the vehicle that is bolted to the floor".....which I would like to do. My question
-Do people here who have the G3 use it untethered? It seems so strange to me that it is ok untethered when all the newer ones MUST be tethered...
-Would you interpret the manuals to advise that I can use this bar under the seat to RF tether to?
-If you don't think the manual is advising that, would you tether it there anyway over untethered? I will not be using the Aussie method.
Thanks!
