Question Anyone know about this....? (Britax Boulevard)

So I have a Britax Boulevard CT sitting in its box in my porch. I think I need to send it back.

I spoke with another tech who I do not know but my instructor recommended me talking with about my tricky 3-across. She seems like she really knew her stuff.

She says that the crotch strap is uncomfortable for older kids so she called Britax and asked about a longer one. They said they were working on one. A while later she talked to Britax again and they said they were not going to release the longer strap after all because the seat was not passing crash testing with a longer strap.

So my thinking is, if the length of the crotch strap is the only thing that makes this seat pass the crash testing, how safe is it???

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the seat is unsafe just because it doesn't pass testing with a longer crotch strap. You would need more information on what they mean when they say that. There are several dummies, both rear-and forward-facing positions....we just have no idea what they are referring to when they say it doesn't pass testing with a longer crotch strap. They could also be referring to their internal testing, not FMVSS 213.

I understand if you want to return it because of the worry that the strap will be uncomfortable, but keep in mind that there are tons of other situations where a feature might be added except for the fact that it reduces the performance of the seat -- situations that we never hear about at all. For example, the Clicktight seats have substantial harness covers, whereas other manufacturers don't allow them at all because the seat doesn't pass with them.

There are many limits for testing, and if the longer crotch strap allowed to move the dummy to move past one of those limits, it can't be used. If it passes with the crotch strap on it, I wouldn't worry a bit.

I agree with the PPs but also want to add that the short crotch strap isn't necessarily an issue for people. I used that seat for my son until he was 4.5 and neither of us had a problem with it. Granted, he's a string bean, but the point is that it depends on the kid. (And on parents, to an extent. I think a lot of times parents assume something will be uncomfortable when their kids couldn't really care less.) (I'm also not trying to downplay people who have had issues with it.)

Whew!!! This makes a lot of sense. We really have no way of knowing exactly what tests it did not pass.

I just had a minor freak out. [emoji16]

Thanks for all the input. I think I will try it out and see if the strap will be an issue as far as comfort goes.
