My newly 4 YO daughter has been RF in E2F in both my 2016 Pilot and my husband's Subaru Outback (2012?). The last few days, she started loosening her harness while we are riding. Initially, it was as we were pulling in to the parking lot, and only after asking, but I caught her this morning when I was still driving, and she did the same thing with my husband this afternoon.
The serious talk seemed to roll right off her, which is surprising, because she was very serious/anxious about it when she was younger. If for some reason her harness wasn't quite tight enough she would tell me and get very upset/worried until I pulled over to tighten it, from 2 years of age. On the other hand, she is otherwise not a very compliant sort. The car seat safety (and other safety stuff) has been welcome but somewhat uncharacteristic.
I'm not sure what to do. Temporarily, I turned her 2.5 YO sister's clicktight boulevard FF (much harder to reach harness release button) and using that in my car for the 1mile daycare run tomorrow. Her sister will use her E2F. I adjusted her seat in her dad's car to proper tightness and put a piece of duct tape over the harness release button. If she works at it enough, I'm sure she could still get herself loose, but hopefully her dad will be able to see what is going on. Is that an okay alteration? I can't see any way it interferes with the actual restraint mechanism.
Longer term suggestions? I know 4 YO is probably/possibly "okay" FF, but I just can't stop worrying about neck injuries, and I was so excited to be able to keep her RF when the E2f came out (she was just outgrowing the Boulevard RF by weight). guess for current height/weight:44-44"/40-41#
Thanks!
