Baseless install reassurance?

So for the first time ever with either of my kids, I am going to have a situation where I need to install our Keyfit baseless. We are in a daycare crunch and a friend is watching our youngest for a few days, but she wants to be able to take him with her and her one-year-old so she isn't house-bound. Her daughter is in center position with LATCH, so she is much more comfortable having a base and using the seatbelt lockoff. I took the base out of my car this morning and left it with her. DH picks up in the evening and a friend at work offered up their extra base for the rest of the time we need the spare.

So for tomorrow morning, that really leaves me with the options of a baseless install or installing our Apt and bringing the Keyfit along in the passenger seat, which seems excessive. It is only about 2 miles on neighborhood streets, so I know I shouldn't be worried, but I am. Can someone reassure me that, done correctly, it is just as safe as the base install? I need to pull the guide out tonight for one last review, but I am fairly confident about getting a good install.

I watched a YouTube video where they did Euro-routing on a Keyfit. That's not allowed, is it? I didn't think I remembered seeing it in the manual....

I've always preferred baseless installs. They're usually easy, and are completely safe!! Don't worry about it!!

I help a friend do a baseless install on the two infants she watches all the time. It's pretty easy. Just make sure it's tight.

Mmmmm.... I love a good baseless install.

The instructors in my tech class insisted that you need a rolled towel or pool noodle in order to fill in the gap between the vehicle seat and the carrier. I was able to get a secure install without either, but you may want to have something on hand.

I found the Keyfit the easiest out of any infant seat I used to do a baseless install with. Yes, it is safe. I'd do it without any hesitation. Had to do it for a while when the van was in the shop, and we needed three across in the Subaru.

Oh and I forgot to say that I frequently installed our KeyFit baseless. It was super easy in every car I ever tried it in. I find it easiest to put one leg on the floor of the car right behind the KeyFit with other foot on the ground (in Captain Morgan stance) and the use my knee to gently press the back of the KeyFit straight back into the vehicle seat back while using my hands to rock the sides of the shell right near the belt path while tightening the locked seat belt.

Pushing it horizontally with my knee helps maintain the proper recline that can sometimes be lost when just compressing at the belt path.
