How do you describe what a CPST is?

My CPST course starts in 15 minutes! I am so excited!

I have noticed, when I tell people why I am taking the next two days off from work, that most people have no idea that a CPST is even a thing. I don't expect them to know the acronym, so I say "a car seat technician, so I can volunteer to teach parents how to use their kids' car seats correctly." Even so, most people look at me blankly, like that's a total waste of 3 PTO days.

Am I doing a bad job of explaining it? Or am I just too entrenched in the car-seat.org world to know what an appropriate level of enthusiasm is?

When talking to "lay people" I usually don't use the word "technician." That sounds like I engineer or assemble things or something (although after changing the cover on my fllo, I almost feel qualified to do so).

I usually say something like, "I help parents install car seats correctly," or "I help parents choose and use proper car seats."

If people still stare blankly, it's because they don't understand (or care about) how complicated seats can be.

I friend ones told me: why do people need car seat techs? Don't parents know how to install their own seats? Funny thing is that her seats were really bad installed and the kids of course very loose....
