Question Anyone know how "hip room" is measured in a vehicle?

For example: if I'm shopping for a vehicle and I want to know how much room there is for car seats I would look at hip room measurements, right?

Where exactly do they measure this? It can't be the obvious because I'm getting different measurements than are listed for my vehicle.

Yes I know this is a weird question. [emoji4]

From what I can tell, it's not a very exact measurement, and it isn't the greatest indicator of car seat room because it fails to account for bolsters and other space-stealing features. I also remember from car shopping that VW doesn't measure it at all.

Basically, the manufacturers are going to measure it in the manner that gives the best result.

My Accord has a listed hip room of 54.7", but due to the shape of the seat and the stiff bolsters on the sides, I'm lucky to fit two RXTs and a Bubblebum back there [emoji35]

Ok that's what I was thinking!!!! That it's not exact. I searched everywhere for something explaining it, thanks for that link, Jeanum!

Jwilliams, my Suburban has a listed hip room of 49" but I measure 51" between wheel wells. Either way, I haven't been able to do a 3 across yet!!! [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35]
