Hi All,

I bought Chicco Keyfit 30 back in September 2015. Great seat, works well with uppa baby cruz stroller as well. First baby born on October 23, 2015. She's 5 months now. At 4 months as the baby has been gaining weight, I noticed a slight rash on her neck, just where the seat belt strap sits during the car ride (with the padding as well). However, although I thought it would go away, she's past 5 months now and the rash is just as big, if not bigger, now. Quite concerning really. If I feel the strap by sliding my finger on top of the padding, I can still see how hard/stiff it is. Not sure how safe this seat would be in case of an accident. see attached pictures.

Thoughts?

I did email Chicco customer service as well.

Welcome! Hopefully we can help you figure it out, though I don't see pictures.

First off, is it possible that you are overtightening the harness? When you do the pinch test you want your fingers to juuust not quite be able to hold on- you don't need to tighten until there is no way to even start to grab any harness up.

If that's ok, is your child very sweaty getting out of the seat? The keyfit has a sweaty cover and it might be heat rash? If so, you could try some corn starch patted on baby's neck to help prevent it. You might also wash the strap covers according to the manual instructions to remove any accumulated sweat.

Does the rash appear anywhere else where baby touches the seat? If so you might talk to your doctor about a possible polyester allergy, and remove the strap covers.

The harness itself isn't actually that thick or stiff compared to other car seats, so hopefully you can resolve this.
