Final car seat purchase for my baby days *wahhhh*

Kid turned 6 last week. He is 52 lbs and wears a size 6 shirt and pants. No idea on height. He has a big head

Was rear faced until 5. Then boostered in dads car and has been since. We are divorced. I drive a total of four hours a day in rural
Highways to get them to school so I want him harnessed a bit longer


He has the evenflo deal, secure kid? Crotch strap was way too short and he ran out of harness length before even hitting the top slots. Waste

Now in a Nautilus but the insane short crotch strap is annoying and he's on the top slots


So my options are are frontier or pioneer right? What's the difference? I only need a year out of this. I would like him to buckle himself. He can't now. Thanks

I owned both, I gave away my Pioneer but I still have my Frontier. The Frontier is slightly taller, it has the HUGS pads, the headwings are slightly bigger, and it has Click Tight which is amazing. The Pioneer is still an excellent seat, some people have difficulty installing it (the method is kinda strange) but I didn't have any problems with it in any of the vehicles I tried it in. My kids found them both extremely comfortable and we've had friends ride in them and I've never gotten a complaint, even from larger kiddos. They've all been able to buckle themselves in them much easier than most seats because the harness is very easily accessible, it doesn't get buried at all and the straps don't twist easily.

Yeah, the new Pioneer is a big improvement in size, probably not an install challenge for someone who knows what they are doing (Frontier is laughably easy, if you have the $$$ for it, though, and want to splurge...).

Man, kids grow up too fast in cyberspace! :)

I think the new Nautilus has more crotch slots so that may help. Which slots is he using in the Secure Kid? I don't recall having issues when I had one.
