Solid color fabrics on new Cosco seats

Can anyone describe to me what the new solid colored fabrics on the new Cosco seats feels like? Is it the same texture as the patterned covers in the store? It almost looks like neoprene to me. Comfy enough for occasional trips and a few miles every day to daycare?

I am debating between the NEXT and the Apt 50, since the harness slots/shell height are taller for my ridiculously tall children and width isn't an issue. Either way, the solid colors appeal to me more than the patterns, but have never gotten my hands on one IRL to see if I like the feel of it (or the function of the APT for that matter). I found the solid red color Apt for $50 so it kind of eliminates the cost factor.

We need one more convertible for when our youngest outgrows his infant seat. Grandma needs a seat for trips about once a week and I need one for my car for daily short trips. We have a Guide now as a spare seat and I have to decide if I give that to her and get myself a new seat, or do the NEXT for her and save money. We had a MyRide with our oldest and loved the angle and cup holders, which is what the Apt reminds me of, but it never fit into my compact car. So the apt is appealing as a cheap version that would fit in my car.

It's a kind of neoprene type fabric. It's very nice feeling, though I have no idea how it holds up long term.

I love it! I have the blue NEXT and it's my favorite seat in terms of fabric texture. So sleek -- almost space-age.

Totally different than the patterned ones, which are more of a satin/felt combo instead of a uniform neoprene feeling.

The solids are more squishy when you push on the seat, but the fabric bottoms out easily, not leaving much under the child. I think it is kind of a toss up as far as bum padding, but the texture and feel of the solids are nicer for sure.

I think my solid red NEXT is awesome. My 2 1/2 year old seems just fine comfort-wise. He fell asleep for a nap in his during a drive yesterday.

One thing that's a little weird is that it feels like the foot portion of the cover was cut too generously, the way it moves around on the shell. But whatever.

Edited to add this quote that I just found in another thread, by MomWithKid: "Just wanted to say that we ended up having a great experience with the cosco scenera next.
He spent long hours in it and took long naps.
He never complained about his butt hurting once.
Meanwhile, at home he complains about his butt hurting in the Foonf after 15 minutes."

I definitely prefer the feel of the Next solid fabric over the Next patterned ones.

But haven't used one for a kiddo on a daily basis so I can't say about comfort. Seems like a very popular seat, though, and I definitely have heard very little complaints!
