almost 5....almost 50lbs

Hello! I have 2 Diono Radians - one in each car. We flew to Disney last year and didn't need to deal with rental cars or car seats. This year we are going on vacation and renting a car. By the time we go on this trip he will be 5 and he will probably be 50 lbs. I can't see lugging the very heavy Radian through the airport. I want him to be safe and would purchase a lightweight 5 point harness to take with us on the plane for the rental car if i could find one. Any suggestions? is he really big enough for just a booster?

The Evenflo SureRide/Titan 65 is lightweight and harnesses to 65 lbs. you could work on him with a booster, probably closely supervised, to see if that would work for the trip.

To me, the difference between a harness and a booster would depend on a couple of factors. How long and how often will you be traveling in the rental car? Will you have someone to ride in the back with him? Do you have (or plan to have) other kiddos, or have someone who could use a seat?

I would say if it is more than 30-40 mins, or if he would be alone in the back, or if you would have use for it down the road, I would purchase a harness seat. Another bonus would be that it is actually easier to fly with the harness seat than a booster because HBB can't be used in flight. And I agree, a Sureride is a good, inexpensive choice that would work perfectly.

If your trips are short and you can keep an eagle eye on him (and you want to) I would be comfortable using a booster.
