2007 Sienna LE - 7 seat & Graco SnugRide infant Car Seat

Hi,

My wife and I are expecting our first child, a baby boy, later this month. :D

We have a Graco SnugRide infant Car Seat and tried installing the base on the passenger-side 2nd row captain chair using the seatbelt. When we installed it following the directions, it seems loose, especially towards the front of the base. Is that right?

It looks like there are LATCH connections on the 3rd row, but I didn't see anything on the captains chairs in the 2nd row. Do they exist on the second row?

Has anyone else had experience with the Graco SnugRide and a '07 Sienna?

Thanks!
Jeff & Jessica

Congrats in advance on the new addition to your family. :) It's normal for the front portion of the infant seat base to move up/toward the the vehicle seatback, a movement that's referred to as "cocooning." A proper installation should have no more than one inch of movement side to side or forward and back at the Snugride base's belt path, where the vehicle seatbelt or the LATCH belt are threaded through the base.

Your Sienna has lower LATCH anchors in both captain's chairs. You need to lift up the velcroed flap of fabric in the vehicle seat bight (the crease where the seat cushion and the seatback meet) to uncover the lower anchors there. You might find it easier to install your Snugride base using those lower LATCH anchors. Otherwise, with a seatbelt installation using the lap-shoulder belt, the infant seat base might start to tilt sideways a bit over time as the locked shoulder belt will tend to pull up and tilt the base. (You did pull the shoulder belt out all the way at the retractor and let it ratchet back in to lock the seatbelt, right? :)). Using the H-shaped metal locking clip that came with your Snugride to lock the vehicle seatbelt, instead of engaging the seatbelt's locking retractor mechanism, can prevent the base from tilting, but really the easier way is to simply install the base with LATCH. If you want a primer on using a locking clip, there are excellent ones at http://www.carseatsite.com/lockingclips.htm and http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/lockincss.aspx
