Canada Graco Click Connect 35 infant seat in 1993 Honda CRV - Canada

    Hi,

Will a Graco Snugride Click Connect 35 infant seat fit in a 1993 Honda CRV?

We're getting a travel system for a cousin who lives in a rural area and she is unable to bring her car to a store where she could check (it's a long way). The stroller that comes with the travel system will work for her, but before buying I need to figure out if the car seat will fit. I haven't been able to find an answer in my searches. It seems to be one of the smaller options, so I'm optimistic, but knowing is better than optimism.

    Thanks!
    -Christie

Graco Click Connect 35 infant seat in 1993 Honda CRV

    Hi Christie! Welcome to car-seat.org!

The Snugride 35 isn't known for being particularly small, but I don't know enough about that vehicle to know if it would be a problem.

Would it be possible for you to order from someplace where she can return it easily if necessary? Does she have a Target in her town (or nearby) that so she could return it to the store if it didn't fit?

Another thing to keep in mind is hat the Snugride seats are very popular/common. Is it possible that she has a friend in town with this seat and she could ask to try the seat out in her vehicle?

For what it's worth, we bought our first infant seat (a Britax Chaperone) from Target.com when they were having a baby gear sale. When we got the seat, it didn't fit in our car at all. We returned it to our local Target store with no hassles whatsoever.

After trying out several seats, we ended up with an Aton -- which is the smallest infant seat available. Our car is smaller than the CRV, though. Your cousin might not need something that compact.

Aha! Part of the problem is that it's a 1997, *not* a 1993. This is why I can't find anything on the '93 - it didn't exist. Also I forgot to add that my cousin is six feet tall so the driver's seat will be quite far back.

We are both in Canada. I live in the province of Alberta where you are not allowed to return a car seat. (Some stores have demos that you can bring out to your car, but others don't.) My cousin is in Ontario, where I have heard of unopened boxes being returned, but I can't count on it. She lives at least an hour and a half drive from a store where she could try it out. I will ask her if she knows someone, but she's quite young, and I think she's the first of her friends to have kids.

The size guess for the car seat came from this: http://csftl.org/battle-of-the-infant-seats/

    Thanks for your help.

Graco Click Connect 35 infant seat in 1993 Honda CRV

Ahhh...Canada. That complicates things. I am not a moderator so I can't do it, but I might recommend that this post be moved to the Canadian forum.

Glad you got an update on the model year of the vehicle. Hopefully you might be able to find specific info about that seat in that car. Unfortunately, there are so many variables that come into play when there are tall parents involved -- not only how far back the seat is, but also is it fully upright or does it need to be reclined a bit? That means that even if you find info about the seat fitting "well" in that particular car, that might still not guarantee that it will fit well with a particular driver. Since this is their first kid, they might be able to swing a center install, which allows the car seat to go in-between the front seats, if necessary. If you can find any info about people saying that the Snugride fits in-between the seatbacks of the front seats, then that would be a good indicator that it will work for them.

Ultimately, if the CSFTL measurement is correct and this seat is as compact as the Keyfit and B-Safe, it might be your best option if they want an infant seat (as opposed to using a convertible seat from birth). The Aton is not available in Canada, and that would be the only one smaller than those seats (at least of the ones measured by the CSFTL posting).

Edit: Do you all have the new Britax B-Safe 35 up there? I think it may be a little more compact than the B-Safe. If she wants a travel system, the B-Agile stroller is a great stroller. I am not in Canada, so I don't know how the price would compare to the Graco.

FWIW I have a Click Connect 40 which has a longer shell than the 35 installed in the center of my 09 CRV. My husband is 6'5" and the seat doesn't interfere with his seat at all.

Hmmm... I think I take this back. I am at Target right now and although the carrier of the B-Safe 35 looks shorter than the Graco Click Connect 35, the base protrudes farther toward the back of the vehicle seat, so if you are using the base it would cause it to stick out about as far as the Graco. You can kind of see it in this picture:

We do have the new BSafe 35 here, but I've had some clients coming back recently with slipping lock offs, so I might not chose that knowing I'd need a seatbelt install for everyday installation.

The centre is almost certainly a lap belt though, right? In that era of CRV? Is that the one with the centre split with the dual fold down arm rests that sometimes makes things complicated?

Yes the center is a lap belt and one that is annoying to adjust but is awesome for car seats, I found. We just sold our '97. At one point we had our Snugride 30 in the center and DH is 6'2" and had no issues sitting in his seat.

I didn't know it was going in the centre, must have missed that detail!
