How is the Sureride outgrown?

We have a Sureride that lives at the in-laws'. It's kind of the perfect spare seat for our family, because it can handle any one of our kids. DS1 used it for the first time yesterday. He's 6, big, and long waisted.

I put the straps through the top slot and was impressed by how much shoulder h was left--I probably could have even moved them down a slot. But the tops of his ears were only about a half inch below the top of the shell.

Does he have an abnormally long neck, in addition to his giant head? Or do most kids really outgrow it by the tops of the ears first, making the super tall top harness height less useful/impressive?

In my experience most kids hit top slots right as ears hit the top. Your child sounds like he may be the outlier there.

I think it's generally outgrown by harness length, actually. I put my then-8yo in it for fun when she was 62lbs to see how it fit someone at the weight limit. She could barely squeeze into the harness, and she's pretty slim. The harness loop stitching was right against her neck, too. I would think that by 60lbs, you're probably at the end of the harness being usable. She still had room above her shoulders. Can't remember offhand where her ears were though. I'll see if I can dig up the pic I took.

You know, I've heard of the harness length issue but my child used it right up to the top slots with no issues.

You know, it was a crazy night last night. I may have underestimated how much height was left above his ears. But I did get a picture of it.
