Is there really a difference in this item?

I have no idea about those two but fwiw DD1 has a Conair flat iron and she's been happy with it. Her hair is just wavy and she doesn't use it often but it seems to work quite well. I'm pretty sure I didn't pay more than $30 for it.

The $40 one says it has tourmaline. From what I've read that makes the straightener glide better on the hair.
