Question What's a *VERY* comfortable seat?

I'm looking to buy a seat that is FF 5-point-harness-to-booster seat for my son. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be RF. I'm really interested in something that is very comfortable, not just for sitting but sleeping as well, since he does a lot of that in the car.

Hi,
What's his age, weight, and shirt size? For us, the only FF seats that haven't been comfy for my kids are the ones that have caused head slump. The Nautilus and Radian have caused that in our vehicles. We've had good luck with the Britax Frontier and Recaro Performance Sport. Some have found the open belt path on the PS to be uncomfortable though. It seems to vary by child. The frontier has been my favorite FF seat by far once my daughter was about 35lbs or so, before that it seemed too wide (she's skinny). If your child has a long torso the frontier might be your best bet.

He is 22mo, 28.5 pounds, and 24m/2t shirt.

Hmm, he's really young for FF. If you're looking for comfort, most kids find RF more comfy especially for sleeping. We have lots of people coming to this board asking how to help their FF kids not have back pain from dangling legs, or how to stop sleeping head slump from super-upright harness-to-booster combo seats.

Pretty much any of the longer-lasting RF-to-FF convertible seats (the Gracos, the Britaxes, etc) will be nice and cushy for a while RF, then will last until booster age FF.

At that age, and looking primarily for comfort I'd go with a RF seat

I would probably look for a convertible and continue to rear-face. It will be more comfortable overall because he will be more reclined for sleeping. Some seats that are known for being particularly comfortable include the Maxi-Cosi convertibles, and the Nextfit.

What's your budget?

My son absolutely LOVED the Evenflo Triumph that we have with the Procomfort fabric. It's a gel under the seat pad that is super squishy and great for long rides as we do 8+ hour trips a few times a year. I think that it is a Target exclusive and runs about $150.

The downside is that it isn't great for extended RF if that is important for you, or for very long torso kids FF. In our case, we found out we were having another child and decided to upgrade our son to a Combination seat now that he is a bit older and will use the convertible again with baby #2.

ETA: They also make the Symphony in the same fabric, which is a little more expensive, but also gives you some booster features

Rear-facing is going to be tons more comfortable, and safer to boot. I think the most padded convertible seats out there are the new Dionos -- Pacifica, Olympia, Rainier. I felt one for the first time recently and couldn't believe how much cushy foam there was under the bum.
