Day 1 of Class

Well we've got a bunch of instructors and a TON of seats. I think we've got more seats than the seat aisle at BRU! We've got all 3 SS's, Chicco, Graco, evenflo, compass, 3 in 1's, Apex....and lots others.

We only have one instructor canidate. And this is the first time they've taught the new curr.

My class of 12 is made up of 4 police officiers--who seem pretty interested, 1 state worker who will be doing a fitting station in DE, 6 workers from Heathy Families...and me. The one person who didn't come from an agency...and just wants to be a do gooder.

The instructors seem amazed with what I already know..and want to know...where did you learn all of this? They mentioned carseatdata.org even!

We did all the seat belt, LATCH and airbag info today. We'll start installing seats tomorrow they said.

Our check is on Friday afternoon and from what the one girl said...we could see some very creative misuse---can't wait to report back.

One of the instructers wanted to know what county I lived in...and got all excited when I told her. Evidently there is next to no one here...she's wanting to get me a grant and a place to keep seats already!

Yay! It's sounds like it's going great! I start my class on Monday and am very nervous, just wondering what the instructors are going to be like and everything. I'm sure I'll be the only one taking the class just because I want to. So, I'm hoping my first class will be as great as your first day!

Great Susan! What county do you live in anyway? I'm in Baltimore County and am trying to start up a carseat program at the pediatric hospital where I work...but it's super hard to find funding...so you're very lucky to have done so!

Can I ask where you are in MD? Is this the class with Tracy & Claire?

You can always come over and play with us in Montgomery County!

Wow! That sounds great!! I wish I could've taken that class instead!! In my class we actually had a Radian, but all the other seats were ANCIENT--and looked like they'd all been puked on . In fact, a couple of days into the class, they actually took about 5 of the seats out to the dumpster (without removing the covers or harnesses) because they were so worthless  You should be feeling very, very lucky!! I hope the rest of your class continues to go so well!! :)

I live in Caroline Co, MD. Tracy is one of my instructors! Not sure about Claire though. We have people from MD KISS and Safe Kids Baltimore,OC PD, Wic Co Health Dept teaching

I don't know if I've found funding....but it sounds like I might have a good start.

Claire and Tracy are both from KISS. You might want to talk to one or both of them about funding. The funding in MD really is bad. I recently heard on the radio that Maryland was one of the wealthiest states, but I can tell you they aren't spending the money on child passenger safety.

It is funny, Tracy had asked me if I could teach in this class but I couldn't make it work with my schedule.

Tell Tracy that Emily (not to be confused with Emilie) from Montgomery County says hi!

Good luck. I know you'll really like the class.

I was one of those people who took the class just because I wanted to as well. It was quite fun to do better than the firefighters and police in the class!

Have fun!
