I LOVE the base. At least, I love the features of the base when I see the seat on the shelf. I haven't tried to install it yet. It has a super easy-looking-to-use belt lockoff (a simple plastic plate that clicks down easily), and a multi level (5, I think) recline foot that's easy to pop up and down.

It's also light. Not that I weighed it, but I picked it up, I thought, Wow, this is light.

Anyway, for $149 all I could think was, "Why can't Graco give me a seat this nice at this price point?"

I'll see if I can give it a shot in my car sometime, I hope it's as nice as it looks to install. I don't know what stroller it's supposed to work with (just checked the site, it's the Jogger that we for some reason aren't going to carry in store. dumb). There's a lower priced version with a travel system, but I didn't see the base for that one.

Does it allow the handle up? Or at least the anti rebound position? Still requires 1.5" clearance?

So Jools and KQ got me curious. I looked up the manual on Evenflo's site.

There is nothing about 1.5" that I could see. That is the good news.

There are 4 handle positions. 1 is straight up and a MUST for Canadian seats. Position 3 is aligned with the back of the shell and is a must for US seats.

The emphasize this in several places in the manual.

If straight up is ok for Canada, why not for the US? Even the Embrace 35 is 1 OR 4 (For those who aren't familiar, the Embrace has 5 positions and 1 is more towards the rear vehicle seat back/anti rebound).

It also has 3 "waist" or hip strap positions.

...good feeling's gone...

Well, that's a deal breaker. Without a matching stroller I'll never sell one, anyway, and the Safety 1st travel system is the same color, so I'll steer people away from the Evenflo :p

Imagine if you lived in a border town with Canada and had to change the handle every time you crossed. Crazy.

You wouldn't. The US rule applies to US seats and the Canadian rule to Canadian seats.

This belies their "everything we make tests better down" stance, though, unless they are using different molds or materials for the two handles (doubt it...)

I hope someone presses them on it.
