Hi car seat gurus, any advice on the following situation?
We have an Audi S5 convertible that does not have top tethers. We would like to be able to install two carseats in the back for occasional/back-up transportation for our two girls- ages 3.75 years, 39 inches and 37 lbs, and 15 months, 25ish lbs, 31ish inches. Questions:
1) I am (now) aware that convertibles are exempted from the requirement that "all" cars have top anchors. Probably should have been obvious to me. Does this mean that, because it is a convertible, it is also impossible to have an anchor installed? We did ask the dealership, but they didn't really know. Who can tell us if a) an anchor can be installed b) where it goes c) who would actually install it, if not the dealer?
2) If there is no way to get a top tether, I understand there are some forward facing seats that pass the safety tests (forward excursion or something like that) without the use of the top tether, and that these are presumably the best bet? Is there a list of such seats? I have a feeling we will need to test out a few options, because the car's seats themselves are kind of bucket-shaped...
I think older daughter will meet criteria for a booster in a few months, but had hoped to keep her in five point as long as possible... and we will have the same issue again in a year or two when we flip her sister forward-facing, so if there is a magic seat that will fix this problem, I will buy it. And add it to my (substantial) car seat collection. Sigh.
Would appreciate and advice or directions to resources to sort this out!
