EPS foam difference CT and G4 Boulevard

I have a Clicktight Boulevard and a G4 Boulevard. There is way more EPS foam on the G4....the whole shell vs just the head rest on CT. I know the whole "all seats pass same test" saying, but surely more EPS foam is better? Or does the CT have something else that absorbs energy instead that i can't see?

Nitpicking...but the black stuff is EPP and the white is EPS. 😇

But its a good point regardless. I'm guessing it didn't need it to pass testing and it's probably just cheaper to make it without.

It's really only beneficial for head protection, as far as I've ever heard... I am not as up on my 'array of bodily injuries children sustain in carseats' data, but it's always been heads that need the biggest protection, elbows and bums don't seem to be high points for injury in properly restrained kids, in seats with just plastic shells.

Thanks. I don't know why I post these silly questions. It's not really keeping me up at night, lol, but I have no one IRL to discuss these pressing matters with! That makes sense to not worry about the sides as much as the head, although I do wonder if more EPP foam in general lessens the overall impact/force on the kid?

My impression is that the energy absorbing foam is there to prevent less severe injuries. It's the harness system and shell that prevent the serious injuries from head excursion and ejection. Many older seats had no foam at all and still passed the standard;-) I've never seen any study correlating EPS foam to fatalities or severe injury. I think there was one study that mentioned it though but I can't recall the conclusions, maybe someone has a link?

I think most of us have 'been there', that's why we are all here! I love reading the questions that I haven't thought about in years, and new ones that make me rethink the stuff I already thought I knew :D
