New baby trend at target

Have we talked about the new baby trend infant seats at target yet? I played yesterday and while the carrier seem mostly the same it did have a substantial insert and (drum roll please!) a new and very improved base. It had an easy to use recline foot, seat belt lock off and the latch tightens more similarly to the b safe 35s. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures!

Well, that's good to hear, anyway, hope it's not a Target Exclusive, I could use some better bases at BRU (I *think I heard* they were waiting on a redesigned base that will fit the regular seats and our one seat that goes to 32lbs and doesn't fit on the standard base, despite the labeling that says the base fits ALL seats, boy, I've had some ticked off customers!)

Wonder what simple seat installation means. Looks like the same latch connectors.

I looked at the manual a little. Same puzzle buckle, same release by baby's feet. THere's some kind of lock off. Is that new? I've never used a BT. I only saw reference to releasing it. There was a picture that describe handle position but none said which for use in the vehicle. I couldn't find that info - but just scanning.

The baby in the linked photo looks like it's all but outgrown the seat!

That base is much better! The lockoff and belt path are huge improvements. The rest of the seat basically looks like a regular BT with some updated aesthetics, though that infant padding is also a massive improvement. They've at least fixed the biggest issues, the ones that actually affect the safety of the seat (how well it fits newborns and the base installation). It's still got that crummy puzzle buckle and it's still undersized for its weight and height limits so it's not a seat I'd ever recommend to anyone but at least it's not a seat you look at and cringe while politely suggesting that it should maybe be returned.

They've allowed any locked position on the handle for a couple years, but still say in the manual they want it down.

Baby Trend®, a leading juvenile product manufacturer, has announced that all Baby Trend infant car seats are approved for use in the back seat of a vehicle with the handle up.
Due to consumer feedback, Baby Trend has changed its policy. Crash testing of all Baby Trend infant car seats confirms that the seats meet safety standards with the handle up. In today’s smaller vehicles, a Baby Trend car seat like the Inertia Infant Car Seat with the handle up takes up the least space and is at its narrowest.
Previous policies insisted the handle be left in a rearward position to discourage parents from hanging toys or other items from the handle. In a vehicle crash, those types of items can potentially cause injury to the child.
Although Baby Trend now allows the car seat handles to be up in a vehicle, Baby Trend still recommends reading the owner’s manual prior to use and keeping the handle back, if space allows, when the car seat is in the vehicle.

So more of a 'please don't sue us if that sharp plastic busy box from another manufacturer fractures your kid's skull in a crash' warning, more than a danger from the handle.

The lockoff is nice, I think, it should lead to a lot less hassle with installs, I wish FMVSS 213 would just require them, already.
