Question Rear Facing Infant Seat

Is it safe to have the front seat touching the infant carrier. It was my understanding that the infant seat should not touch the front seat as it needs to be free moving to allow the seat to move to absorb the impact of a crash instead of the infants body absorbing the impact

Can you clarify

The question you are asking is a complicated one. First off, read your child seat manual. Some (rear facing) child seats have restrictions against the child seat touching the back of the vehicle seat in front of it. Some also have specific instructions for handle position in the car. If the handle is permitted to be up, that will usually gain you some room.

Second, read your vehicle manual, both the child seat section and the airbag section. Many vehicles with advanced airbags have restrictions on anything (including child seats) touching the backs of the front vehicle seats.
