Air Canada not allowing gate-checking of booster seat

This is more of a notice than a question.

When we checked in to the Ottawa Airport today, the Air Canada agent did not want to let us gate-check our booster seat. We've never had problems before - including as recently as February this year, but today we were strongly discouraged from gate-checking (read: we had to argue, politely, to be allowed to). The agent stated that A) there are no concerns about checking a seat, and B) if the seat didn't make it our destination, there are absolutely a "whole room" of seats that Air Canada will lend us, apparently regardless of where we are flying.

I don't actually have a lot of faith in either statement above, especially since we have a super-tight turnaround at our connection, due to Air Canada changing our flight...

So- heads up. We'll see what they say when we board - we do have a gate-check tag. We have an Olli Clek, so it's even a small booster seat, but they weren't sure it will fit in the overhead bin in the cabin.

Why would you want to gate check your Olli? Why not just put it under the seat in front of your child? I'd be concerned that the rigid LATCH would be damaged, at the very least, if the seat were checked.

We always recommend carrying a carseat on board a plane and using it (if it's a harnessed seat) or storing it in the overhead bin or under the seat in front if it's a booster. The highback portion of a booster can be stored in luggage if it's taken.

I would rather walk than fly Air Canada. If there is anything they can do to make flying more miserable, they will do it. Worst airline ever

We just flew several flights with AC. We carried on 2 backless boosters. I put them in a large cloth bag and they fit under the seat in front for both kids. No one asked and they were well within our bag allowance.
