We have a 1993 Eurovan and would like to be able to take our grandchildren in their car seats with us. Any idea where we would find the anchors for the tethers on their car seats for our van?

Thank you,
Sharon

Hi! A 1993 model vehicle will not have any anchors or tethers. I don't have my latch manual in front of me at this moment, but hopefully someone can look up whether you can order the part to retrofit some top tether anchors.

Being a 1993, it is very possible that the seat belts do not lock. If that is the case, a locking clip would need to be used on lap/shoulder belts in that vehicle (although it is possible your lap only belts do lock).

How old are the grandchildren, and what height and weight? Do you know what type of car seats they are currently using?

It may be possible to retrofit top tether anchors for the third row of the VW Eurovan depending on the model option/version of the specific Eurovan in question. The 2015 LATCH manual lists 1992-1999 VW Eurovans as retrofittable with up to 3 top tether anchors for the third row (1 for the third row center and 1 for each side/outboard position of the third row, for a total of 3) for the following Model Options: Applies to Multi-Van (MV) versions, those with triple bench rear seat, and those with a folding rear seat. The VW top tether anchor retrofit part numbers listed in the LATCH manual for the 1992-1999 Eurovan retrofit are:

Anchor Plate 703 858 773
Washer N011 525 27
Anchor Bracket 445 887 267B
Rivets N016 199 2 (2 required)
Bolt N989 108 01

VW does not have a free top tether anchor retrofit program so there will be out of pocket costs for the parts and any labor provided by a VW dealership, making obtaining a written quote advisable. VW dealerships are also supposed to have the capability of verifying the latest part info. as part info. can change over time.
