Needed Combo Seat Too Tall For Car

HELP!

DS 4.5 outgrew his Diono Radian, but is on the autism spectrum and not nearly mature enough to go booster, so we NEED that 5-point harness. Britax Frontier 90 arrived yesterday & was installed last night. We took the maiden voyage today in my year-old Mazda 3 only to discover that it's blocking my rear view - not totally yet, but it eventually will.

Has anyone dealt with this? What are solutions people have come up with? I'm a little panicked over here.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

That's a difficult situation to be in!

My first thing to try would be to move him to a different location in the car and see if that helps.

If it doesn't, there are a few lower profile seats you can try. But at some point you'll have to figure it out, some it seems unlikely he'll do well in a backless booster even once he's booster ready?

The only other option would be a vest, but that's much more difficult to deal with getting him in and out of.

Umm, how's your side view? You might have to get used to using those for a while.

I've got 3 across in my back seat, and have practically no view out my rear view or over my right shoulder for merging into a right lane on one-way streets, etc. I've been forced to get good with my side view mirrors and I really want to get some blind spot mirrors to add to them.

I try to put my tallest seats behind the driver seat. Since it's behind the driver, I don't even see it when driving. However, that doesn't always work when you have more tall seats than spots behind the driver. I've gotten really good at using my side mirrors for merging and doing some good gymnastic moves for backing out of a space if I couldn't find a space to pull through.

What about an Evenflo SureRide. It sits lower than the Frontier and with 19" top harness slots it lasts a long time.

A vest was my first thought also, but I'll second or third the mirrors. I have some crazy Tall seats (ie the foonf) and no visibility in my rear view, plus after driving a patrol car (with a scratched up partition and over tinted windows) I've had to learn to rely on mirrors alone 99% of the time. The blind spot mirrors help too.
