Keyfit question

Does anyone know what changed to make the keyfit go from 22-30#? The seat itself, the base?? I am wondering because I got the 22 version last winter and just got a new base. My sticker was getting peely and black so I emailed Chicco asking to get a new sticker. They asked for pics. I sent some and they sent me a new base!! I need to send the old one back - they are having UPS come pick it up:) I emailed them asking if that base makes my seat good up to 30# but haven't heard back yet. So I thought I'd ask all you experts:D

Very interesting question. I think the seat and base both have minor modifications. It just sounds too good to be true that getting a new base would basically give you a whole new seat. It would help me though because my DD still fits by height but is about to outgrow the 22 by weight. Hmm...

I don't think you will be able to use the 22# limit old seat to 30 lbs. They probably are very similar, but I don't think the original KeyFit was tested to 30lbs, which means your kiddo would be a crash test dummy.

Here is Chicco's response.

"The new base is universal but you still have to go according to the weight limits of the infant seat. You can use both the 22 infant seat and the 30 lb infant seat with the base but you cant use the 30 lb infant seat with the 22 lb base."

That's good to know. I suspected that it would still be 22 lbs, even when using the 30 lb base. The weight limit isn't base dependent since you can use the Keyfit without the base.
