Back in the Husky

I'm really just saying hi to everyone as I was thinking about you all today.

We've had some transportation issues so Katie has been using the TurboBooster or the Laptop for the last month or so. She rides very well in the booster, even on the three-hour trip to Grandma's house. So when I went to put the seats back in the van, I asked her which one I should put in. Right away she said she wanted the big blue one (Husky). When I asked why she said it was really comfy and keeps her safe. Then when we went to town tonight, I started to buckle her in (she can't buckle the Turbo or the Laptop), and she said, no, I can do the buckles on this one, remember? You just need to tighten it.

While the logical part of my brain isn't totally sold on very extended 5-point car seat use, the comfort and convenience is sure the opposite of what the average person seems to think. My almost 5 year old would rather buckle herself in to a big, comfy seat than ride in a more "grown-up" booster. And it's a lot easier for me to deal with, too. Of course, I'm not planning on moving the seat again anytime soon. I might feel differently if I had to haul it from car to car on a regular basis.

:p You know what's funny? I was saying the SAME EXACT THING when Hayley was that age. :D She loved her "Big Blue" better than any other seat, it was the easiest for her to buckle herself (boosters, even the Parkway, were difficult or impossible and almost always led to frustration and sometimes meltdowns), it was the most comfortable for her. The last couple of months she's been saying the Husky harness "feels weird", fussing about riding in it, and doing GREAT in her boosters, which is why we made the big decision to move to a booster full-time at 6y4mo.

It's GREAT that your almost-5yo feels so strongly about the safety and comfort of her five point harness. :) I totally agree that it's counter-intuitive to most parents, the thought that a harnessed seat is more comfortable and convenient, but in our experience it's been the case.
