Mazda Protege 5 and Graco 4Ever

I currently have my son in the Graco 4ever. We did switch to forward facing (I know sadly we did it 2 months before he turned 2), my son weighs 30 pounds and is 3ft tall. From what I can find the latch anchors are for 48 pounds. Does this mean I should not be using latch (carseat itself is 27.9 pounds)? I've read different information that some cars are rated for the carseat only and the child is assumed okay since he is within weight limits? Any guidance would be much appreciated! As of now he is behind the passenger seat with lower anchors and top tether.

The 4Ever has the lower anchor weight limit on a sticker on the side of the seat. Either 42 or 45 pounds, child's weight, depending on when it came out.

If you'd like he's still small enough to rear face, so you could flip him back around. Most kids do just fine with that transition. But just want you to know it's an option.
