Peg perego primo viaggio uncomfortable?

My new born has ridden in this seat three times now and just seems so uncomfortable. The neck straps are so close and the shoulder pads were way too large. Anyone else have this problem? I'm switching it out for the coccoro to see if he likes it better...

We took the strap covers off - they were too big for DD until the past few months. She's 16mo/25lbs/31". She's a string bean though, so the straps being close together is great for us.
EDIT: I'm assuming you're talking about the convertible here. If not, ignore me!
