Is this safe for a newborn? Required?

I have a stroller safety question. Not sure where to list it...

I have a valco baby double stroller. Valco baby says that the seat reclines far enough back for a newborn to be put directly in the seat.

Because I thought it might be more comfortable, I was considering purchasing this seat pad/head-hugger thing. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004HEWT9A/ref=pd_aw_sim_ba_2?refRID=0NZ8RYAQDJ03BE7FM5YV

But my car seat fanatic brain gets nervous with any aftermarket products, even though this isn't for a car seat and this one is made by the stroller manufacturer. Can she suffocate if she has a head-hugger thing in the stroller? I also hear that the head-hugger things are necessary for tiny babies in strollers because they need the neck support. So I am feeling confused and caught in the middle -- is a head-hugger safe? Required? Recommended? Useless? Unsafe?

Just want to do the right thing. I'd like to get some kind of seat pad because the stroller is black and the baby will be born in the summer. But the head-hugger thing is a total mystery to me.

As long as the seat can get flat enough for a newborn recline and it's not pushing the head forward in any way, it seems it would be helpful to keep it from flopping to the side.

We had a little girl last July and also have a Valco stroller. Actually, I've had a single and a double;). Huge fans here! Depending on the stroller you have, you may want to look at the Hussshhh bassinet instead of the Allsorts pad. I much preferred being able to see the baby that way if I wasn't wearing her in a sling. She is now 9.5 months old and we use our single Valco daily for a walk/bike ride with big brothers. I do have the purple Allsorts pad in because the fabric is softer and cooler feeling than just the stroller fabric. I probably wouldn't use the Allsorts pad with a newborn in the fully reclined setting. I'd be concerned about them turning their head and having their nose/mouth against it if that makes sense.

Which double do you have?

I would think it would be helpful for support.
I've always used various insert thingies for newish babies, in our strollers.

We got a Snap Duo -- the older model with just one hood.

The worry about her turning her head and suffocating is my big one. :-(
