what happened to color?

I walked up and down the carseat aisle at BRU today, for the first time in several years (need to reshuffle seats as my kids are growing) -- I was struck by how 'blah' the whole row of seats looked. All variations of gray, black, brown, with only a few patches of color here and there.

Is it just my imagination, or are bright colors and interesting patterns out of fashion at the moment for carseats? It just struck me as depressingly drab :p

I remember there used to be complaints here that there were lots of cute patterns for girls, and not much interesting for boys -- it looks like we've achieved equal treatment now -- nothing eye-catching for either gender...

I guess it depends what store you go to- both the national and local buyers have a say in what ends up on the shelves. BRU and I rarely share taste in patterns though! The funky patterns that end up in boutiques or online only are usually more my style. ;)

I think the stores order the most boring colors - kind of like people paint their walls a neutral color before showing it. Usually you can order online and see many more colors!

Hey there, stranger!!!
BRU is... special, it achieves a level of boring no one else can touch. Except for the Baby Trends, they are super cute
What seats are you shopping for? How old are the kiddos?

Personally, I like the car seats to sort of match my car interior. So the grays, tans and black colors actually match my preferences.

Ha ha. Me too. While I like the colors and patterns, I like matching more! And dirt color looks better with dirt on it. It blends in. Lol!

I agree that a lot of carseats these days are dreadfully dull! I particularly noticed it with the Graco 4Ever, though I do think the one with the pink edge is kind of snappy looking.

On a lot of carseats it seems like the only real color or interesting pattern is on the infant insert, and you often get rid of that early on or never use it at all.

I just love the solid-color Scenera NEXTs, though!

I think it's really silly though, I went into BBB and they had the Pria in that bright pink color and my 3 yr old DD1, who shares none of my passion for carseats, lol, was like "it's sooo beautiful!!" There would have been no way she would have let me buy another.

I think the way Maxi Cosi lets you pick the colors on the Mico is amazing and great marketing!

I completely agree! I haven't been in the car seat world very long, so I'm just starting out but I'ma bit sad about the color choices :(

We have been looking at the Britax Advocate CT or the Clek Foonf...the Foonf is plain, but it does have several solid colors available at least.

The Britax options, however, are very lackluster...I was hopeful when the Boulevard CT was suggested that it would have better options, but no so luck! :(

I like colour too. Maybe it's all in my head but I find Canadian seats to be even less colourful. Blah. I think at this point I'll save up and get one of the Paul Frank Clek Fllos for baby after they outgrow the KeyFit we have for the infant stage.

I like colorful seats because they really excite my kids. The way I might drool over an ARB my kids might over a print. I find some seats garish, but some kids love those. And it's the kids sitting in the seats that should have a say. If my dh said he'd really like me to drive a grey car because it matches our garage better, well, that wouldn't fly with me.
