Innovative car seat idea!

It came to me the other night when I was sitting in my chair knitting that convertible seats should be truly convertible. As is the harness should adjust from the back when rear facing, then switch to front adjust for forward facing. In my fantasy, the adjuster strap and splitter plate would change places magically somehow. I wonder if that could ever work or be a thing! Lol!

Only if the rear adjust is a simple pull-to-tighten thing. Real life rear adjust car seats are terrible!

Hahaha, in MY fantasy world, every seat is an old Roundabout with a reachable, smooth, flawlessly easy harness adjuster button. I don't know why they can't bring that back, maybe it had something to do with only 40 pounds, but man, that adjuster was impeccable, RF and FF.

Fun to do fantasy engineering, though (my dreams generally include 'how nice would it be if seats didn't have to have seatbelt paths' or 'rigid LATCH, rf and ff').

Ooh, here's an idea: instead of a strap to pull, there should be a retractor built into the car seat. Push a button and it tightens itself! Let go and it locks!

There is an infant seat that does that, even levels itself. I think it has like a $500 price tag though (I may be exaggerating the $$).

The Roundabout was nice. I remember the disappointment when I got the Marthon.

That would be nice. Brings to mind the shield Fisher Price of the 80's. You all know how I loved that seat!

This has long been my dream too.

Mine was blue and had the grey rubber shield that self-tensioned. When someone would unbuckle me and not immediately lift the shield over my head and off my body it would retract and get very close up to my neck.

ETA: this monster.

Me too! I have been hoping for a safe version:p of that seat for YEARS! They even made an infant seat with the shield...Altho it was still huge on tiny babies.
Baby Trend had a 3 pt. infant seat with a soft shield but I'm not sure if it ever made it to market or what happened to it??

Yeah that was the one we had. We never had any close neck incidents that I recall anyway. Do you know what the recall was for?

I rode in that FP infant seat too.. Lol. It was a similar blue but didn't feel like carpet apparently. I remember the convertible but obviously not the infant seat.

Which recall? I thought there were a few! I'm pretty sure one was for the shield retracting and nearly choking children, which is pretty much what happened to me! I'm guessing mine was one of the recalled ones. Apparently it was the "best of a bad situation" with car seats in '89 when they purchased it for my older sister.

I only knew it was recalled, not that there was more than one! And I don't believe it was while I was using it but who knows! Maybe I'll google it later if I get bored. Lol.

That soft shield one never made it to market. Oh my gosh, that was sooooo long ago, I think Toby tested it? Back in the iVillage days...

I miss those iVillage days! Foofy, freedom, bandana, are you listening Britax? I miss the ingenuity of the FP car seat line. I'd love a stay in view!
